Learn About the Cuyahoga River Water Trail Project at Happy Days Lodge

Wed 12/12 @ 5-7PM

Do you have a passion for nature and protecting the environment? Are you excited about the events coming up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the famous Cuyahoga River fire and how it sparked clean water activism?

If so, you’re invited to join like-minded people at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge for an open house to share information about the Cuyahoga River Water Trail (CRWT) project.

What’s a water trail? “A water trail is the aquatic equivalent of a hiking trail,” they tell us. “It designates a route for paddling — including access points, signage, safety information, education, amenities, maintenance, and management for a better user experience.”

The project to create the CRWT along the 100-mile Cuyahoga River (22 miles of which are in CVNP) began in 2011. Since then the partners in the project have been working on restoration and protection of the river and its surrounding environment. It hopes to get its official designation as an Ohio Water Trail by June 2019 when the anniversary of the Cuyahoga fire and the beginning of transformation is marked.

There will be a formal presentation by the project leaders at 5:30, but interested people can come any time between 5 and 7pm to ask questions and give input. It’s free and open to all who care about the environment.
