Roots of American Music (ROAM) is a Cleveland Heights-based nonprofit that uses professional musicians and music to teach kids in underserved schools, camps and other settings about subjects like history, civics and science.
They also host music for the community, as they’re doing at the Beachland with a Monday evening show featuring EO11 and the Spyder Stompers with Sugar Pie.
EO11features three lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalists, Patrick Walker, Denny Despari and Nancy Fisher Crum who deploy three-art harmonies and unusual arrangements on tunes ranging from jazz to blues to pop.
The Spyder Stompers and Sugar Pie play old-timey pre-war acoustic country blues and ragtime — pre-WW I, that is. The ensemble includes ROAM founder guitarist/mandolin player Kevin Richards, guitarist/harmonica player Jack DiAlessandro, bassist Ray DeForest and “Sugar Pie” Sheela Das on ukulele, pennywhistle and washboard; all four sing.
Admission is $5.
