The 10th Annual Heavy Metal Food Drive Is Back at the Beachland

Sat 12/8 @ 5PM

The biggest heavy metal event of the year is always the Heavy Metal Food Drive at the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern, put together by Bill Peters, host of WJCU 88.7 FM’s long-running Metal on Metal show. It’s now in its 10th year, co-sponsored by WJCU and the Exchange. The show takes place in both of the Beachland’s rooms, with seamless scheduling between them so there’s always a band playing. (And because it’s Bill Peters, every band starts at exactly the time listed on his pre-released set list schedule!)

It kicks off in the Tavern stage at 5pm with Assault, followed by Merciless Reign @ 6, Dead Earth @ 7, Spellchucker @ 8:10, Vandallas @ 9:20 and Amps II Eleven @ 10:45. Over in the Ballroom Ballroom Syphilis Diller kicks it off at 5:30pm, with Sleeplord @ 6:30, Sacred Few @ 7:30, Ritual @ 8:40, Olathia @ 10 and “mystery band” @ 11:30 until closing. Emcees for the evening at Jarvis Leatherby of Night Demon and Olathia’s Chris Emig.

The show is free; they’ll be accepting nonperishable food donations (for people and animals) as well as cash donations for the Great Cleveland Food Bank, Friends of the Cleveland Kennel and the Alzheimer’s Association. And although there’s no raffle this year, Cleveland concert photographers Joe Kleon and Anastasia Pantsios will be set up in the lobby selling their photos of legendary Cleveland metal concerts, with part of the proceeds going to the above charities.
