Ursuline College Gallery Shows Work of Local African-American Quilt and Doll-Making Guild

Fri 11/16 @ 5-8PM

If you haven’t seen the intricate and arrestingly creative work done by the Northeast Ohio-based African American Quilt and Doll Guild, you owe it to yourself to check out the new show The Storytellers, featuring their work, which opens at Ursuline College’s Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery with a reception this Friday, 11/16 @ 5-8PM.

The organization, founded in 2006, has 70 members who produce work that has been shown in exhibitions around the world and at events such as Station Hope in Ohio City, sharing diverse aspects of African-American culture, politics and society.

“The Guild’s spectacular fiber works express the diverse aspects and interpretations of African American culture and the triumphs and struggles of life and history,” says Wasmer Gallery director Anna Arnold. “I am elated for this opportunity to display the Guild’s work where we get to see how they challenge and inspire one another to interpret, experiment and develop their own unique styles.”

The exhibit will be on view through Fri 12/28. It’s free and open to all.
