The high point of Cleveland’s annual Thanksgiving Polka Weekend is the Polka Hall of Fame Awards when the new entrants into the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame in Euclid are honored, along with the winners of the year in various categories.
This year’s inductees are accordion players LynnMarie Rink and Don Wojtila. The Nashville-based Rink, known professionally as LynnMarie, plays Slovenian (“Cleveland-style”) polka from her base in Nashville. After being nominated for five Grammys she took a break to attend to her family, but she’s back playing now. The Don Wojtila Orchestra has been a mainstay of the Cleveland polka scene for almost four decades, with Wojtila on lead accordion.
This year’s theme is “Polka-Mania!,” which will be driven by performances by Florida’s Alex Meixner, Minnesota’s Singing Slovens, Canadian Polka king Walter Ostanek, the Button Box Divas and Fritz’s Polka Band from New York, among others.
Tickets for the award show, taking place at the Downtown Marriott ballroom, are $25.
