Empty Bowls at McDonough Museum of Art Benefits Mahoning Valley Needy

Sat 12/1 @ 11AM-4PM

You may have heard of “Empty Bowls” events, which have been catching on as a way to benefit hunger-related charities. They usually involve participants receiving a handmade bowl after buying a ticket, which they can them fill with the soups or other foods offered at the event.

The Ceramics Program on the Youngstown State University Department of Art is holding such an event at the McDonough Museum of Art, benefiting the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, an emergency shelter which hosts and feeds people in need — a number likely to explode in the Mahoning Valley in the near future with the closing of Lordstown.

Students and local volunteers have been working all year to create the ceramic bowls donors will get in return for their $15 (in advance) or $20 (at the door) ticket. They’ll get a hot meal, with vegetarian options. There are seatings at 11am, 12:30pm and 2pm. Additional bowls can be purchased for $15.
