Cleveland Public Theatre’s Y-Haven Program for Formerly Homeless Men Presents “Outside the Mirror”

Thu 11/8-Sat 11/10 @ 7:30PM

Sun 11/11 @ 3PM

One of the special things Cleveland Public Theatre is known for is offering various local communities, such as at-risk youth and the Hispanic community, the opportunity to express their particular viewpoints onstage, performing in productions they themselves have created.

Another such program is the Y-Haven Theatre Project, comprising clients of the Greater Cleveland YMCA’s Y-Haven transitional facility for formerly homeless member with substance abuse and mental health issues. Their annual production at CPT draws from their own experiences and is performed by the men themselves, with CPT staff providing guidance.

This year’s production is called Outside the Mirror. A dozen men perform this story in which, according to CPT’s description “A mysterious salesman disrupts the lives of two men, a small business owner and his right hand man, with an opportunity to glimpse their future. Outside the Mirror questions our ability to see the consequences of our choices and whether our future is decided by actions of today or set by fate.”

Outside the Mirror has a weekend of performances at CPT, followed by a series of free community performances. The CPT performances are a $5 suggested donation; the special Saturday evening benefit performance is $50 and is preceded by a reception @ 6:30pm.
