Brews + Prose Features Two Writers with Different Cultural Views at Market Garden Brewery

Tue 11/13 @ 7PM

The monthly Brews + Prose evenings at Market Garden Brewery usually take place on the first Tuesday of the month. This month that was Election Day, so with people likely to be checking returns on the phones the entire evening, they moved it to the second Tuesday.

The two authors who will be speaking present two different cultures and how they interacted — and clashed — with American culture. Huda Al-Marashi was born in the U.S. and grew up in California as an American (she’s now a Clevelander), but her marriage was arranged at age 6 by her Iraqi immigrant parents. Her memoir First Comes Marriage: My Not-So-Typical American Love Story details her relationship with the man her parents chose for her.

R.O Kwon was born in South Korea, but has lived in the U.S. more of her life. Her just-published debut novel, The Incendiaries, a spy/adventure/mystery/love story in which Korean and American cultures mingle, has been getting strongly positive reviews.

Brews + Prose is free and open to all; food and drink are available for purchase.
