The Akron Art Museum’s recently opened show Dig spotlights the Jeff Donaldson, one of the co-founders of the AfriCOBRA movement in the 1960s. That movement, which emerged from the south side of Chicago, aimed to embrace black culture and politics and speak to a predominantly black audience.
To bring additional perspective to the show, Dr. Tuliza Fleming, curator of American Art at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, will give a free talk at the museum. She’ll talk about Donaldson’s role in AfriCOBRA, as well as how the art collection at the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s American came together.
It’s free and open to all.
