Quebec’s Les Violons du Roy Play Handel and Glass at EJ Thomas Hall

Tue 10/16 @ 7:30PM

The members of Canadian chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy, based in Quebec City with an auxiliary base in Montreal, play modern instruments but use copies of period bows when it performs Baroque and Classical period pieces. Formed in 1984, the ensemble has released more than 30 albums and performed across the U.S. and Europe, as well as South America and the Middle East, playing repertoire that spans the 16th-20th centuries.

The group will perform at the University of Akron’s EJ Thomas Hall for a Tuesday Musical concert. There they will be joined by countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo. The program features music by George Frideric Handel and Philip Glass, a nice juxtaposition of 18th and 20th centuries.

Tickets range from $25-$45; free for students of all ages. There will be a “Concert Conversation” on stage at 6:30 for concertgoers can learn more about the pieces they’ll be playing.
