NY Artist Alexis Rockman Looks at Threats to the Great Lakes in Painting at MOCA Cleveland

MOCA Cleveland’s next show features the work of Alexis Rockman, a New York-based artist who explores the fraught relationship of man and nature and the potential impacts of climate change.

His recent project, The Great Lakes Cycle, involved five years of research It comprises giant paintings on wood panels, as well as smaller paper-based works, that draw on elements of surrealism to depict unsettling, damaged environments of the future, including glimpses of eerie underwater worlds littered with shipwrecks and skeletons.

The Great Lakes Cycle opens at MOCA Cleveland this week with a party t hat features a cash bar, music by DJ NicNacc, and an artist talk by Rockman at 7pm.
