Dobama Theatre Stages Midwestern Premiere of Unsettling “John”

Fri 11/19–Sun 11/11

There’s something discomfiting, something just a tad … off … in Annie Baker’s 2015 play John, which Dobama Theatre presents in its Midwest premiere for its next production. In it a young couple stops at a Gettysburg, Pennsylvania inn filled with toys, figurines and dolls where they encounter some unsettling people who exacerbate the tensions and irritations they already feel. Since the play runs more than three hours, there’s plenty of time for those tensions to simmer. It’s the second of Baker’s plays they’ve presented recently; they staged her 2013 play, The Flick, last year.

Dobama’s artistic director Nathan Motta directs the play, which stars the doyenne of the Cleveland stage Dorothy Silver, along with Catherine Albers, Luke Wehner and Kat Shy.

Tickets are $29-$35. The play runs through Sun 11/11.
