Cleveland Hip Hop Women Are the Focus of Evening at MOCA Cleveland

Fri 10/5 @ 8-10PM

From the beginning hip hop has been a male-dominated genre, at times absurdly so, with records and stage performances featuring posses of bros whose job was to stand around and go “uh huh, uh huh.” But from MC Lyte and Roxanne Shante in the 80s to Cardi B and Nicki Minaj today, women have always been somewhere in the background trying to claim their space.

eCLEctic is sponsoring an event called “Ladies First” at MOCA Cleveland that will shine a spotlight on Women in the Hip-Hop Business in Cleveland, focusing on DJs, artists, radio personalities and behind-the-scenes movers and shakers that make it all happen.

It kicks off with a panel discussion featuring Z107.9 personality Bijou Star, DJ/record store owner/record label head DJ Red-I and WDMT-Fm radio pioneer Lady Skill, followed by performances by Baby Lit 216 and FreshProduce. Admission is $20.
