Great Lakes Black Authors Expo and Writers Conference Comes to East Cleveland Library

Fri 9/28 & Sat 9/29 @ 9AM-5PM

Coinciding with the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards and Cleveland Book Week, Great Lakes Black Authors Expo (GLBAE) promises to be the foremost event promoting literary education and publishing industry networking.

Friday is the kickoff with a closed reception and awards ceremony, when Poet Laureate and Akron native Rita Dove, youngest and first African-American appointed as Poet Laureate Consultant by the Library of Congress, will be presented with the Alice Dunbar Nelson Award for Literary Achievements. Dove also won the Pulitzer Prize for her book Thomas and Beulah.

On Saturday, expect to hear Langston Hughes keynote speaker Tayari Jones, and participate in a multitude of workshops. The event is sponsored and co-hosted by Case Western Reserve University’s Office for Inclusion, Diversity, & Equal Opportunity, and by Melanated Literary Heritage, Ltd.
