Dudes Look Like a Lady, as “Adventures of Priscilla” Cues Costume Contest at the Canton Palace

Sat 9/8 @ 7PM

It was a no-brainer that the 1994 Australian comedy Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, directed by Stephan Elliott, would get the Oscar for Best Costumes. The heroes (played by Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Terence Stamp) are an all-male flaming-transvestite disco dance troupe, stuck in the macho Australian outback with an outrageous assortment of drag accessories. The big screen of the Canton Palace is really the only way to appreciate costumer Lizzie Gardiner’s incredible creations.

But there’s another way! The Palace will be hosting a genuine drag-ball costume contest, preceding the R-rated feature (which begins at 7:30pm). Dantel Vasquez presides, all are welcome to enter, and cash prizes are promised. But will it be Australian money?

Ticket admission is $7 at the door. For an outrageous epilogue be at the afterparty at Crew Nightclub.
