Comedian Mike Polk Performs the Role He Was Born to Play at Lakewood’s Beck Center

Fri 9/14-Sun 10/7

The Beck Center for the Arts has the “genesis” of its new season with An Act of God, a comedy in which God comes back to Earth. George Burns being unavailable, the Beck has cast the next best thing, local stand-up comedian and sports commentator Mike Polk.

Yes, anyone writing graffiti that “Polk is God” is now officially vindicated.

This is the local premiere of An Act of God, which ran on Broadway starring TV sitcom deities Sean Hays and Jim Parsons taking the Supreme Being lead role.

In the nearly-but-not-quite solo show (there are a couple of angels), God possesses an ordinary guy and declares the audience all the things that religious traditions and society have gotten wrong about Him. No, we do not know if there are Cleveland jokes.

The show runs Fridays and Saturdays @ 8pm and Sundays @ 3pm through Sun 10/7. Admission is $33 for adults, with student and senior discounts available.
