“Art as Journal” by Laura Bidwell and Shari Wilkins Opens at Massillon Museum

Sat 9/22 @ 7-9PM

Photography can be a way of recording and exploring life’s journeys, as Cleveland artists Laura Ruth Bidwell and Shari Wilkins do in their new show Art as Journal. It opens this week in the newly renovated Studio M space at the Massillon Museum.

Bidwell’s work, “The Great Tangles,” documents her recent move from Peninsula to Cleveland’s Hingetown neighborhood, capturing the tangles of brush through which she viewed this rural/suburban/urban journey. Wilkins made numerous trips to her family’s ancestral home, the dying Illinois river town of Cairo, using instant film to record the collapsing homes and building as the infrastructure decays to create her body of work “Promised Land.”

The show opens with a reception Sat 9/22 @ 7-9pm and will be on view through Sun 11/4. Bidwell and Wilkins will give an artist talk at the museum on Sun 10/14 @ 3pm.
