Liz Maugans Shares Her Arts Insights at Creative Mornings Cle at the Edgewater Beach House

Fri 8/17 @ 8:30-10AM

Artist/printmaker/arts advocate Liz Maugans is a force of nature. She co-founded printmaking studio Zygote Press in 1996 and steered it to being one of the most influential arts organizations in town, seeding other organizations following a similar model in other media. She also co-founded the quarterly CAN Journal.

During the uproar over arts tax distributor Cuyahoga Arts and Culture’s high-handed treatment of local artists, she became one of the leading voices in encouraging artists to step up and speak out. She organized the Artist Trust project last year to give area artists a focus and more exposure, and at the end of the year, stepped down from her role at Zygote.

She said it was to focus more on her own art but of course she has only increased her role as an organizer and arts promoter. She became director of the Yards Project which turned downtown apartment building Worthington Yards into a veritable gallery. There’s hardly anything art-related in Cleveland that she isn’t involved in, and many (including this writer) feel that one of the most powerful things the city of Cleveland could do to grow its economy, its tourism and its cultural strengths is to create a post for an Arts Commissioner and appoint Liz.

Want to hear more from this dynamic arts leader? She’ll be the speaker at this month’s Creative Mornings Cleveland taking place at the Edgewater Beach House. The event is free and includes breakfast and coffee, but you need to regster t hold your place. Go here.
