Learn How to Use a Rain Barrel at Workshops Around the County

Thu 8/23-Thu 9/27

If you’re even a casual follower of issues relating to the protection of our environment, you’ve probably heard about rain barrels, which collect rainwater to be reused. They help decrease the amount of water you need to take from the water system for things like watering your garden while decreasing the amount of stormwater runoff that makes its way into our sewers.

And it’s not as difficult as you might think to hook up and use a rain barrel. If you’d like to know more, the Cuyhoga Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting a series of workshops in different communities, where you can learn all about it. The workshops are free to attend if you’re still in the scoping-it-out stage. If you know you want to commit, rain barrels are $60; an additional barrel for a two-barrel system is $20.

They kick off this week in Seven Hills on Thu 8/23 and Brooklyn Heights on Wed 8/29, both from 6-7:30pm. There are also workshops in Berea (Thu 8/30), Independence (Thu 9/6), Newburgh Heights (Tue 8/18) and Shaker Heights (Thu 9/27).

Go to CuyahogaSWCD.org for more information or to register for a workshop.
