Until last year, Akron didn’t have its own Pride Festival. Now it does, and it’s gone big. Taking place in Hardesty Park, it features a parade stepping off at 11am, a Pride Pavilion, vendors and information booths from dozens of community organizations (almost 150 in all!), mostly local food of all types, a beer garden and a Kids Zone with activities such as bounce houses, a ferris wheel and a trampoline bungee jump.
There’ll also be three stages of entertainment, including drag queens, drag kings, belly dancers, an Elton John tribute, a Donna Summer tribute, singer/songwriter Alexis Antes, the North Coast Men’s Chorus, making the trip down from Cleveland, and up-and-coming Australian singer/songwriter Betty Who.
The festival is free and open to all. Of course. Because it’s Pride. Akron also puts the period on Ohio’s Pride festival season, which kicked off in early June.
