Tour One of the First of the Current Generation of Urban Farms, Tremont’s Hooper Farm

Sat 7/21 @ 10AM-6PM

One of Cleveland’s lesser-known agricultural treasures is Hooper Farm, tucked in an out-of-the-way corner of Tremont. It’s pretty much a one-man operation, started by Erich Hooper in 1994, long before urban farming became a big thing. Behind his home, he farms an acre of land overlooking athletic fields and factories, growing a variety of produce he uses to create the food he sells at special events such as the Hessler Street Fair and FireFish or to cater special events. He also has an onsite market stand and hosts groups for educational purposes.

Central State University is joining with him to host a tour of his fields and infrastructure, learning how he does what he does as part of the 2018 Sustainable Farm Tour and Workshop Series. There’ll be music and food (watch out for the ghost pepper honey!). If you’d like a hands-on experience, there will be work you can do.

It’s free although donations are encouraged.
