MANSFIELD: Jordan Gets the Horn

Just because Steve Bannon was unceremoniously booted out of the White House, don’t for one minute think that he didn’t leave the playbook behind for Trump to use. You know — the one that contains his diabolical strategies for establishing a new form of government in the United States that closely resembles old-fashioned fascism. And Trump is sticking to the plans.

The first step is to delegitimize existing institutions — the press, the courts, law enforcement, and any other entities that get in his way. His attack on the accuracy of our vote counting is a prime example. He stated that millions of people voted illegally, but for that to have happened dozens of secretaries of states around the country (the majority of them Republican) would have to be guilty of malfeasance … and that simply isn’t true. The fact is, these Republicans actually find ways to limit the franchise, not expand it. But this is all a setup for the presidential election of 2020. When Trump loses he’s going to try to stay in office by claiming that the voting system didn’t function properly. Just watch — you’ll see that I’m right in my prediction.

One of the other agencies Trump has to raise suspicions about is the Department of Justice in general and the FBI in particular. In that way, when evidence of his wrongdoings are presented he can claim the agency that came up with the information is tainted and run by ideologues. But to better accomplish his goals he needs some help, and this is where Jim Jordan comes in.

A radical Tea Party right-winger, Jordan has been giving Department of Justice officials fits in Congressional hearings. He has virtually called respected members of law enforcement liars to their faces. Now anyone in Washington will tell you that is just not a smart thing to do.

The FBI certainly isn’t perfect; since it is run by humans mistakes can be made. But mistakes are damn few and far between, and safeguards are in place to guard against them, catch them and correct them when they do occur. The agency is not in the business of making shit up; they don’t have to since there are so many wrongdoing motherfuckers in this country they really have to prioritize which ones to pursue.

There’s a saying that criminal defense attorneys sometimes use: “Don’t tickle the bear.” Jordan, on the other hand, has been poking the law enforcement bear with a sharp stick. I guess his logic was, “I’ve never done anything wrong in my life that they can come after me for.” And he was right. He isn’t now being pursued for something he did, but for something he didn’t do: Which was to report sexual misconduct if he knew about it.

Of course, he’s now adamantly saying that he knew nothing. And in most cases like this, we’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. But in Jordan’s case, there will be so many other shoes (worn by persons of impeccable credentials) that will drop his protestations of innocence will be drowned out.

Did federal law enforcement officials orchestrate the investigation that probably will lead to Jordan’s demise, or certainly his neutering? Well, after all, it is interesting that 13 years after the death of the doctor that allegedly molested the wrestlers, an investigation is launched. It’s not like the victims are after money from the school, so why did these allegations surface now?

Remember I said it’s not smart to tickle the bear? There’s another saying that’s equally true: “You fuck with the bull long enough, you’ll eventually get the horn rammed up your butt.”

Ouch! That really hurt!
