Trey Anastasio Band Trombonist Natalie Cressman Brings Her Own Band and Music to Nighttown

Thu 6/28 @ 8PM

Vocalist/trombone player Natalie Cressman is only in her mid-20s, but her career is already kicking into high gear. She has seven years in Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio’s touring band under her belt and even did a show at Madison Square Garden with Phish, giving her cache in the jam-band scene.

And if you’re doing the math, yes, she was a mere 18 years old, plucked from her freshman year at the Manhattan Music. She’s also gigged with a vast variety of other ensembles including nu disco group Escort, hip hop electronica band Big Gigantic, funk group the Motet and jammers Umphrey’s McGee.

But considering that her mother is a jazz vocalist with a specialty in Brazilian music and her father is a recording engineer and trombone player who spent two decades with Santana, her early start in music is no surprise. She’s certainly wasted no time. She released her first album, Unfolding, in 2012, and a follow-up, Turn the Sea, in 2014. Etchings in Amber, a duo album with guitarist Mike Bono, came out in 2016, and now she’s released a new five-song EP titled Traces which adds overtones of electronic dance music to her eclectic sound.

Cressman will be arriving at Nighttown this week with her band in tow, featuring Bono, bassist Scott Thompson, drummer Michael Mitchell and sax player/vocalist James Casey.

Tickets are $15.
