April may be “the cruelest month, breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain . . .” as T.S. Eliot sagely scribed (and he wasn’t even from Cleveland!) But with the annual Doan Brook Stream Sweep, things are sprucing up.
Community members come together and celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up the place, located in Cleveland’s historic Rockefeller Park Saturday, and throughout Shaker parklands Sunday.
Plastic bags, glass bottles, food wrappers, Styrofoam and coffee cups wash down storm drains that connect to local streams and rivers (as this writer recently witnessed all over one metroparks creekbed, ugh), ending up in Lake Erie.
Organizers ask volunteers to arrive at 12:30pm, and to wear warm clothes and waterproof boots.
