Electric Pressure Cooker Cabaret at Jilly’s Welcomes All Types of Performers

Sat 2/17 @ 8PM

The Akron storytelling-based performance group Wandering Aesthetics will be hosting the 34th edition of its freewheeling Electric Pressure Cooker Cabaret, an open mic where people can get up and perform — well, just about anything. Would-be performers can re-register for a slot at epcooker or by calling 330.612-3090 or show up at 7:30 to sign up.

What can they bring to the table, er, mic, during their up-to-12-minute slot? Music of all types, acoustic and fill bands, monologues, dialogues, poetry, readings, dance, standup comedy, improv, storytelling, scenes from plays, performance art, or anything basically you can dream up. If you’ve never performed before or have decades of experience, it doesn’t matter. Even kids under 18 are welcome to perform if they bring an adult. “The sky is the limit; no art is too taboo for the #EPCooker!” the organizers exclaim.

The event, which takes place at Jilly’s Music Room downtown, provides an emcees (this edition they are Katie Beck and Nim Tamang, both of Akron’s Gum-Dip Theatre), drum kit, keyboard, stage, lighting and sound system with operators. Admission for audience members is $5 or pay what you can.
