Broadview Spotlights Has a Valentine’s Sampler with Cult-y Off-Broadway Show “Almost, Maine”

Fri 2/9-Sat 2/24

Once, Almost, Maine, a magical-realist stage piece (written by Law & Order actor John Cariani) might have been compared to Spoon River Anthology or maybe even Our Town. It broke records when it opened in Portland in 2004, but reception was lukewarm when the regional curio came to New York’s Off-Broadway stage in 2006.

Still, the show’s reputation has grown, and Broadview Spotlights community theatre has had the notion to bring the uncommon item here as an offbeat-flavored Valentine special.

The presentation is actually comprised of nine short, sometimes surreal playlets. Each revolves around couples finding or struggling to maintain love in a small, eccentric Maine community under the Aurora Borealis.

Tickets are $13 for adults, $12 for seniors and students.
