“Never underestimate the power of the cello!” says the Cleveland Cello Society. And for more than a decade the organization has been promoting the instrument with its concert series, workshops and its annual scholarship competition for young Ohio musicians.
Hear the future of the cello when the winners of the 2017 competition perform of a recital at the Music Settlement in University Circle. Five young players will perform. The collegiate division winner, both Cleveland Institute of Music students, Wei-An Hung is the winner of the Gold Medal and the Agnew Prize for performance of Bach, and Jacqueline Rogers is the silver prize winner. Katsuaki Arakawa is the winner for the senior division (grades 9-12); Laura Schilz is the junior division winner (grades 6-8), and Matthew Huang won the elementary division (up to grade 5).
Admission is $5 at the door; free for CCS members.
