Pittsburgh Jazz Musician Benny Benack III Shares His New CD at the BOP STOP

Sun 12/10 @ 7PM

Young Pittsburgh jazz musician Benny Benack III has two different musical lives. He’s a talented jazz trumpet player who’s placed in a number of competitions, including being a 2014 finalist in the prestigious Thelonius Monk International Jazz Competition, toured extensively around the world and performed at major jazz venues, played with bands such as the Christian McBride Big Band, the Mingus Big Band and the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars, and even toured as trumpet soloist with Josh Groban.

But he’s also a vocalist with a smooth croon that wraps itself skillfully around jazz and pop standards such as “I Only Have Eyes for You” and the Carpenters’ “Close to You,” both of which appear on his recently released debut album One of a Kind.

He’ll be sharing the new tracks with Clevelanders when he brings his five-piece band, which includes his father Benny Benack Jr on saxophones, to the BOP STOP for a CD release show. Admission is $15.
