Broken Ornaments at the BOP STOP Is a Completely Different Take on Holiday Classics

Tue 12/19@ 9PM

Sax player Dan Wenninger and guitarist Mike Sopko have enlisted a group of fellow adventurous Cleveland musicians for an evening at the BOP STOP they’re calling Broken Ornaments: A Holiday Concert with an Impulse Toward Destruktion.

“We will be playing some dear old holiday favorites with exotic flair, in the styles of Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman, Bill Frisell and other obscure musicians you’ve never heard of,” they promise.

Among the tunes they’re planning to play in a way you’ve never heard them played before are “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “The Christmas Song,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “Wonderful Christmas Time.” They won’t be dripping with treacle and sentimentality by the time these guys get done with them!

Wenninger and Sopko will be joined by Neil Chastain on drums, Dan Volenik on trumpets, Rick Kodramaz on bass and Stephan Haluska on harp to aid in the deconstruction.

Admission is $10.
