Try to Match These Riffs, North Korea! The US Army Jazz Ambassadors Defend Akron

Mon 11/13 @ 7PM

Celebrate Veterans Day with some stars, stripes and swing, at a free concert by the Jazz Ambassadors, the official big-band ensemble of the United States Army, at the Akron Civic Theatre.

You might be forgiven for not knowing the U.S. military has an official big band. The Jazz Ambassadors were founded in 1969, a period when the Vietnam War was an unfortunately off-note backdrop. Now support these troops: a 19-member ensemble — vocalists and instrumentalists — who tour internationally, representing America’s musical heritage and performing big-band, bebop, Latin/contemporary jazz, Dixieland, vocals, patriotic selections and pop standards.

Admission is free (hey, tax-funded military buildup pays off!) but tickets are required and can be picked up at the Akron Civic Theatre Box Office or Wayside Furniture locations.
