Laura Cortese and the Dance Cards delve into American folk traditions and infuse acoustic music with a jolt of energy. With Cortese on lead vocals and fiddle, Valerie Thompson on cello, Jenna Moynihan on fiddle and Zoe Guigueno on bass, the group tops the instrumentals with a lavish icing of vocal harmonies.
Cortese is originally from San Francisco but landed in the Boston area, where the band is based, to attend the Berklee College of Music. Since then she’s had a busy career, performing with several bands and as a solo artist and sideman including with Band of Horses at Carnegie Hall and Pete Seeger at the Newport Folk Festival.
She’s obviously made some fans locally because she performed at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall in February and now she’s coming back, this time with a brand-new album released in October called California Calling. And it certainly will be if she encounters some blustery Ohio weather!
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
