City Ballet’s Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker Is Doubtlessly Better than Uniquely Detroit Nutcracker

There have been hip-hop Nutcrackers and other revisions of the classic Tchaikovsky ballet with the Christmas vibe. But City Ballet of Cleveland has developed an adaptation with Cleveland references.

The “Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker” contains references to the town, especially a surprise appearance by the 1920s-era Indians baseball team. We would consider it more “uniquely” Cleveland if Drosselmeyer is a lookalike for Ghoulardi, but cannot promise anything.

Admission to the two performances at the Breen Center in Ohio City is $15 for students and seniors and $35 for adults. Seriously, Ghoulardi/Drosselmeyer — can’t you just see that?
