Psychedelic Rock Legend Roky Erickson Comes to the Beachland Ballroom

Wed 9/13 @ 8PM

Those who have put seeing as many of the legends of rock and roll as possible on their bucket list won’t want to miss the appearance of Roky Erickson at the Beachland Ballroom.

The now 70-year-old musician was the driving force behind the Texas-based ’60s psychedelic rock band the 13th Floor Elevators, one of those bands whose reputation far eclipsed its commercial potential, although it did have a minor hit with “You’re Gonna Miss Me” in 1966.

Sadly, Erickson was one of those casualties of that era where drug use collided with underlying mental illness, incapacitating him for many years even while his legend was growing. Back then, his occasional performances were painful to watch. But, getting his illness under control in the mid ’00s, he was finally able to live a relatively normal life, perform, and even tour again.

Performing with him at the Beachland Ballroom are the Death Valley Girls from Los Angeles, along with DJ Lord Albert. Tickets are $25.
