Learn How Money Poisons Politics and What to Do About It at Market Garden Brewery

Wed 10/4 @ 7PM

Did Russians break into the actual voting systems last November and change vote totals to make Donald Trump the winner? Almost certainly not.

The truth is much less glamorous and doesn’t make for a good high-tech thriller. It involves corporations, conservatives and billionaires working together to “rig” elections through voter suppression and floods of big dark money that mislead and discourage voters.

Move to Amend, whose slogan is “We the People, Not We the Corporations,” is a national movement which addresses that big corporate money in politics, something studies have found that citizens across the ideological spectrum are opposed to. It proposes a simple constitutional amendment to undo odd interpretations of the Constitution by the Supreme Court that have blocked campaign finance reform. It would say that corporations are not people and money is not speech, two false equivalencies made over the years by the U.S. Supreme Court.

If you’d like to learn more, come to a program at Market Garden Brewery featuring George Friday and Laura Bonham of Move to Amend’s national leadership team. They’ll talk about the history of how corporations have come to be viewed as having “constitutional rights” and what is going on to try to change this.

The program is free and open to all.
