Be the Chalk of the Town at the Cleveland Museum of Art

Sat 9/16 & Sun 9/17 @ 11AM-5PM

Chalk is not just for body outlines on the city streets. If you need proof (sure do, these days), the Chalk Festival at the Cleveland Museum of Art is submitted in evidence.

The festival has stated goal to riff on an old Italian-Renaissance tradition, in which chalk artists (typically penniless) copied the work of the great masters in chalk outside of cathedrals. In this family-fun variation, teams rent (from $10 to $25; so much for the being penniless) a patch of sidewalk and spectrum of colored chalk in the Fine Arts Garden to make ephemeral masterpieces on the concrete. Stenciling and masking materials will also be on-site.

Pre-registration is required to actively take part; phone 216-707-2483.

Merely being an onlooker and chalk-art critic is free. Children under 15 must be accompanied by supervising adults. Know the Chalk Art Festival is a rain-or-shine event.
