The Great Geauga County Fair Lives Up to Its Name

It’s not generally appreciated that the boxer Marvelous Marvin Hagler really did change his name to that. “Marvelous” isn’t an adjective, it’s part of his legal name. Don’t hate on him; we can name other celebs who changed their names to far more pretentious things.

Similarly, the Great Geauga County Fair really is titled that — the Great Geauga County Fair. Now in its 194th year, the venerable fair takes place over the long Labor Day weekend in Burton, with attractions covering 150 acres of fairgrounds. Highlights include daily acrobatic shows, C&W musician Chris Higbee, maple syrup tastings, carnival rides and midways, a demolition derby, a rodeo, the “Diaper Dash” (we are afraid to ask), and a performance by the Great Geauga Fair Band. This is, in fact, the only Ohio County Fair with its own house band.

Tickets are $8 at the gate, with advance/online and five-day discount passes available. Children under 12 get in free.
