Art Show in Shaker Heights Explores the “Art of Dissent”

Wed 8/30 @ 6-8PM

The Shaker Community Gallery will be opening a show called Art of Dissent at Christ Episcopal Church on Sat 8/26. But if you’d like to see the works of the four prominent area artist who are participating — Gary and Laura Dumm, Michelangelo Lovelace and Liz Maugans — stop by Wed 8/30 from 6-8pm for the artists reception.

All four are known for provocative art that addresses social, cultural and political issues of today. The Dumms, a husband-and-wife team of illustrator/artist, have been tckling such issues for more than four decades and have lately turned their attention to environmental degradation and climate change. Printmaker Maugans is an observer of human nature and how people respond to the environment around them. Lovelace’s paintings are detailed renderings of urban scenes, bursting with life and energy as well as poverty and sometimes violence.
