BAYarts Galleries Are All About Cuba This Month

William Riera “The Daily Struggle”

Fri 7/14 @ 6-9PM

With the Cleveland Foundation’s Creative Fusion artist exchange program focusing on Cuban artists this year, we’ve been deluged with visitors from the island less than 100 miles off the Florida coast.

But artist Augusto Bordelois, who was born in Havana 48 years ago, is no stranger to Cleveland; he’s lived and exhibited here for years. He knows both cultures well so he’s an appropriate person to curate the show of Cuban art opening in BAYarts’ Sullivan Family Gallery. The show will feature the work of nine Cuban artists, both those still living in Cuba and those who have left, using their work to explore the heritage, history and culture of their island and how it has impacted them and their creative process.

In the Dianne Boldman Gallery, also opening with a reception Fri 7/14 @ 6-9pm is My Cuban Experience, featuring the work of local artists and friends of BAYarts who have travelled to Cuba recently.

Both shows will be on view through Sat 8/5.
