Fri 5/12-Sun 5/28
Playwrights Local, whose mission is to present new works by local playwrights, premieres a new play-with-music called Things As They Are, written by Playwrights Local’s founder/artistic director David Todd, with an original score by Ben Chasny of local ensemble Six Organs of Admittance.
The play is described as “a dramatic exploration of poet Wallace Stevens, a stoic visionary whose imagination and duality have lent him an unwavering mystique.”
Things as They Are looks past the stock image of its subject as an aloof executive, revealing the ‘real’ Wallace Stevens to be a man of great insight, whimsy and desire.”
Dramatized scenes are interact with the score, as well as movement, comedia dell-arte and projects. Chasny will play guitar and John Elliott will handle synthesizer and electronics, as the nine-actor ensemble, directed by Anjanette Hall, performs.
The piece will be performed at the upstairs loft at Reinberger Auditorium Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30pm and Sundays @ 2:30pm, through Sunday 5/28, with a half-price industry night performance Mon 5/15 @ 7:30pm. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for students.
