Describing itself as “fabulous multi-cultural dining,” Bistro 185 is an oasis of fine dining at the head of a street better known for its blue-collar bars and homely family-style cafes. Opened by Ruth & Marc Levine in 2006, they sold it to their chef Ryan Kaston in 2016. He tweaked the menu while retaining some of their mainstays.
It sources much of its food locally and even grows some of its own on its rooftop garden. The menu changes constantly to accommodate the best available ingredients. Much of it leans French or Italian but it could include anything from a seafood paella to a bouef Bourguinon to a lobster ravioli to smoked BBQ ribs. Bistro 185 eagerly accommodates vegan and gluten-free diets too.
