Lopez on Lee has a long history dating back to 1979, having begun as Lopez y Gonzales a few blocks up the street in a less prominent location. But since 1997, it’s had a high-profile spot in the heart of the Cedar-Lee commercial district. Long before Mexican food was on every block, Lopez was providing its fajitas, tacos and burritos to the community.
Its current space is both cozy and bustling with an active bar, daily specials and live music on the weekends. The upscale Mexican menu offers plates of all sizes to accommodate any appetite — and can cater to vegans and gluten-free diets as well. Noted local chef Michael Herschman took over ownership in early 2017 after running the kitchen for six years.
Come have dinner or join your friends for margaritas. “The food is spicy and the drinks are exciting,” they promise.
