The ramshackle building at the bottom of Literary Avenue that houses Pat’s in the Flats has been around since the 1800s and in owner Pat Hanych’s family since 1945. She’s worked there since the ’60s and inherited the homely workingman’s bar on the edge of the Flats from her mother in 1981. She still serves cheap eats and beer to people who work in the surrounding plants, trucking firms and warehouses, but since the late ’80s, she’s also opened her doors to an array of punk and underground rock bands. You won’t find trendy craft beers or slick cover bands here or even a regular entertainment schedule, but you’re free to come in and hang out anytime.
