Elite Texas University Big Band, The One O’Clock Lab Band, Performs at Westlake High School

Tue 4/9 @ 7:30PM

The University of North Texas in Denton is known worldwide for its outstanding music program, one of the U.S.’s largest. It was also the first in the world to offer a degree in jazz studies, and its program is considered so outstanding that it was ranked first by U.S. News & World Report in every year it ranked graduate jazz programs.

One of the many performing ensembles at the school is the One O’Clock Lab Band, which has its own personal record of accomplishment. The most elite of the nine 19-piece big-band ensembles at the school, the 71-year-old group has snagged seven Grammy nominations and done extensively international touring.

Cleveland may not be as exotic as Russia, Thailand or Australia, but they’ll be coming to town for a three-day residency as part of Tri-C’s DownBeat Education Days. On the first evening, they’ll perform a public concert at the Westlake High School Performing Arts Center. General admission tickets are $15.
