Funk-a-Deli, formerly Yiddishe Cup, Headlines Workmen’s Circle Concert at Cain Park

Sun 6/24 @ 7PM

Yiddishe Cup, which has been playing its lively hybrid of klezmer and pop music for 30 years, is no more. Don’t panic! The group has merely changed its name to reflect that it’s blending more influences, including soul tunes such as “Midnight Train to Georgia,” into the traditional eastern European Jewish sound. It’s now Funk-a-Deli, and for the right money, they’ll still play your kid’s bar mitzvah.

Meanwhile, they’re headlining the 40th anniversary Workman’s Circle Yiddish concert at Cain Park’s Evans Amphitheatre, always a fun event that has toddlers, teens and grandparents dancing in the aisles together. Emcee is Canadian humorist, author of Born to Kvetch, Michael Wex, and special guests include legendary klezmer marimba player (not a joke!) Greg Selker, formerly of the late Kleveland Klemorim; klezmer violinist Steven Greenman; Shawn Fink, singing Jewish radio DJ who, we are told, does “oy-robics” while performing; and The Temple-Tifereth Israel cantor Kathy Wolfe Sebo.

It’s free and no tickets are needed. Just come and be ready to be entertained.
