Harpist Brandee Younger & Pianist Courtney Bryan Perform Alice Coltrane & Younger’s Music at Cleveland Art Museum

Wed 5/10 @ 7:30PM

New England-based Brandee Younger is a classically trained harpist (how else would you train on the harp?). But she explores jazz and pop music as well with her Brandee Younger Jazz Harp Quartet, pushing the boundaries of what her instrument can do and working with artists ranging from Pharoah Sanders to John Legend to Common to Jack DeJohnette.

New Orleans native Courtney Bryan is a pianist of similarly expansive musical interests whose music involves jazz, gospel, spirituals and hymns. Her undergraduate music degree is from Oberlin; she has degrees from Rutgers and Columbia and recently completed a postdoctoral research position in African-American Studies at Princeton. But her warmer native climes called her home to New Orleans’ Tulane University where she’s now an assistant professor of music.

When these two musical adventurous women perform at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium, their program will feature the music of Alice Coltrane as well as Younger’s original compositions. Tickets are $30-$45.
