Swing

Round here, we know how to swing. Probably more than you think we do.

This week, wunderkid Matt Skitzki and other local rising jazz stars take over Severance, (it’s about time!). The Beck’s raising money at a brand-new jazz club in the LKWD.

It’s not all about jazz, tho: Packy Malley’s Reggae Fest moves to Whiskey Island, Tremont hosts a food truck fest, and we’re biking in the Heights. And NEO’s own Great Lakes Base saves the world at Canal Park and Blossom this weekend.

Catch it all on your phone or tablet with the free Cool Cleveland mobile app, and you can be one of our weekly winners by doing this simple thing. Jazz up! –Thomas Mulready

Move Over Mozart
Make Room for Jazz @ Severance

Matt Skitzki and seven other of Northeast Ohio’s rising jazz stars are putting on a show featuring some of their original jazz pieces at that temple of classical music, Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra.

What started out as informal jam sessions between friends and band mates to read, practice and experiment with their new compositions has turned into a formal production in Cleveland’s premier concert hall…

Heroes They Are
Characters with a Cause

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

A princess Leia hologram repeatedly declared, “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi; you’re my only hope,” and average citizens, outcasts, and the Rebel Alliance came to the white cloaked damsel’s aid.

Today, when a similar band of local Jedi sees children in need of help, Cleveland’s own Rebel Legion rises to the occasion…

Doris Long has been singing jazz and standards around town since 1963. She has performed with a who’s who of the local music scene, with long running stints at such great places out of the past as Sammy’s and the Theatrical.
