She Can’t Stop
Allison Bencar, on her way to the top

If you haven’t heard of Allison Bencar, you probably will soon. She is one of the newest voices on stage in the Cleveland music scene, and is headlining at Brother’s Lounge this Sat 2/27 at 10PM.

Allison Bencar’s music is a fusion of retro pop, modern blues and rock, featuring smoky, sultry vocals, honest lyrics and raw emotions.

Her original songs are peppered with flavors from Latin Jazz, Reggae, 80’s Rock and Vintage 60’s Pop, and her ballads combine haunting melodies with narrative lyrics that transport the audience to the most poignant moments in their own lives…

Mischievous & enchanting
Cool Cleveland talks with the delightful stars of Emma

How is it possible that a story written in 1816 is still so popular, so often performed, so assiduously adapted and so earnestly remixed? Seriously, plug in Jane Austen’s Emma in YouTube and you’ll see what we mean.

Watch the video interview with the delightful stars of The Cleveland Play House’s Michael Bloom-penned adaptation of Emma: Sarah Nealis [pictured, right], who plays the mischievous Emma, and Carolyn Faye Kramer, portraying the young Harriet, Emma’s “project” who she tries to match with a husband, to hilarious effect.

Fans will remember the 1995 film Clueless, a contemporary updating of the classic novel, and the many period film versions, most recently, a sharp reading by the BBC in 2010. But nothing compares with seeing it live, on stage at the Cleveland Play House from Fri 2/26 thru Sun 3/21. More info

Candy Store
Kristine Jackson

For those of us who first saw her back in her days in Blues on Purpose as a horn player behind Mary Bridget Davis, Kristine Jackson’s first CD of mostly original material, Candy Store, is just another step in the evolution of someone on her way to big things.

From horn player to guitarist to vocalist to songwriter to performer of her own material to fronting several different versions of her own band, each step she has taken has been in the right direction…
