So for those who are looking for the best our part of the world has to offer, we present our hand-picked assortment of all sorts of cool things to occupy your near future, that is, this week: the Research ShowCASE of future technologies, research and solutions; the Women’s Air and Space Museum, honoring a time when the future meant something; Mansfield throwing his hat in the ring; and Roldo wondering why our leaders think our future doesn’t include public transportation. Maybe your future includes the new CD from Becky Boyd & Tim Matson or the celebration of balsamic vinegar at CMNH, or even the cash you could win by clicking on the 100+ links below. Give it a try. It’s your future. –Thomas Mulready

What The Future Holds
Research ShowCASE 2010

When non-scientific types of people hear the word “research,” they roll their eyes and shrug their shoulders. They think of research as mathematical formulas, advanced computer programs, and sterilized laboratories – way beyond their reach.

Not so with the upcoming Research ShowCASE event taking place at Case Western Reserve University, Veale Convocation Center, on Thu 4/15, from 8AM – 3PM.

Free and open to the public, the Research ShowCASE exhibition provides fascinating visual displays, demonstrations, hands-on simulations, multi-media presentations, expert panel forums, and opportunities to directly question the research teams.

This collaboration of academicians, graduate-level and post-doc researchers, and medical personnel from Northeast Ohio’s universities and hospitals shows us cutting edge advances and what the future holds in store…

Women’s Air and Space Museum

University Circle may be known as Northeast Ohio’s museum epicenter but the Cleveland lake shore is doing its best to change that tag with its own Museum Row – the Great Lakes Science Center, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and the U.S.S. Cod Submarine Memorial.

Also thrown into the latter is the relatively obscure International Women’s Air and Space Museum (IWASM), which is located inside the lobby and west wing of Burke Lakefront Airport…

I’m In!

Yep, after consulting with family, friends (and, as my dear departed mother used to laughingly say, “God, and three or four other white folks”) I’m throwing my hat into the ring for the Cuyahoga County Executive’s job… why not?

I can sling bullshit, make empty promises, and not call people back once I’m elected with the very best (or worst) of ’em.

And the real upside is, I’ve already been to prison – been there, done that – so that’s not something the electorate has to be concerned with in my case.

I mean, if I learned one thing from all my years on the other side of the law, it’s the proper way to take a bribe…

Becky Boyd & Tim Matson
Becky Boyd & Tim Matson

Amongst the surprises in a recent stack of new CD releases is a disk from two of the old pros of the local music scene, blues diva Becky Boyd and guitarist Tim Matson.

Both of them go back a long way, and have played with a who’s who of local and national musicians over the years. Becky Boyd fronts the blues band Real Life, while Tim Matson goes back to the glory days of Mr. Stress’s Blues Band. The self-titled release features Boyd’s terrific vocals set against Matson’s tender acoustic blues guitar. It is a very entertaining disk with only one problem; it is too short with only seven tracks…

Open your eyes Mr Bartimole, Would you please be so kind as to add RTA to the list of what elected officials and the PD seem to not notice. I have been a bus rider my entire life and have never seen things this bad. I have made calls, written letters, sent emails and have attended many public hearings. I’ve even crashed a few Citizens Advisory Board meetings which is a joke in itself. In more than one of those public meetings countless numbers of citzens have accused the CEO Joe Calabrese of getting fired from other transit companies. I haven’t read this anywhere and it doesn’t come up in my google search. But I wonder is there any truth to it. And if he has been fired from other transit companies, why have the politcal powers in this County allowed him to destroy our public transit system…
