Cleveland Orchestra Members’ Side Project Ensemble HD Plays in Hudson

Sun 11/12 @ 5PM

Playing in the Cleveland Orchestra isn’t enough music for some of its members. Many of them play in other groups and situations as well, such as Ensemble HD.

The group includes five Cleveland Orchestra members: flute player Joshua Smith, violist Joanna Patterson Zakany, violinist Amy Lee, oboeist Frank Rosenwein and cellist Charles Bernard, along with pianist Christina Dahl. The Ensemble grew out of the Classical Revolution concerts at the Happy Dog in Gordon Square, where classical musicians stretch out to perform for non-traditional audiences.

They’ll be performing in a somewhat more conventional format this week when they play a Music from the Western Reserve concert at Christ Episcopal Church in Hudson. There the program will include music by Maurice Duruflé, Bohuslav Martinů and Gabriel Fauré.

Tickets are $20; student admission is free. A reception with a chance to meet the musicians follows the concert. Be sure to ask them what their favorite toppings are on a Happy Dog hot dog.
