Hi-Lites

Hi-Lites

We’re trying. We strive to bring the best, the finest, the highest of highlights each week. But it’s a challenge to fit everything in. I mean, just scroll down & look at it all.

Like the two shows opening at CSU this weekend, not to be missed, and previewed here. Akron’s Wesley Bright & the Hi-Lites releasing a hot & sweaty vinyl 45. Mike’s Broad Side of the Barn relocating. TCO does Pixar. Breakneck Gallery exhibiting Distorted Portraits.

And along with the high points, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention some ways we can improve. Roldo warns us to heed the past and prepare to pay more to benefit wealthy sports team owners. While Mansfield revels in MLK’s dream of five decades ago he suggests a Plan B, while kicking off a shorter column, Mansfield Straight. And Richey Piiparinen thinks the Rust Belt can do better than textbook gentrification if we use new models of neighborhood investment.

Play our #Hashtag Game and win free buzz for your favorite happening this week. And follow Christine Zuniga, who won $20 just by using our mobile app, who’s been reading Cool Cleveland every week for six years. That’s a lot of highlights. –Thomas Mulready

Still, desperate city leaders are happy with any trade-offs, as is evidenced by Detroit’s economic development czar George Jackson’s recent declaration that: “I’m sorry, but, I mean, bring it on [gentrification]. We can’t just be a poor city and prosper….”
